Toronto Maple Leafs

I chose the Toronto Maple Leafs because, I love hockey and this team has the most history of hockey than any other hockey team. They have one a lot of Stanley Cups and have had more then their share of hall of famers. I already knew some what of the Toronto Maple Leafs. I knew that their first Stanley Cup they won was in 1931-32, and that they are one of the sixth original NHL hockey teams. The most interesting thing I knew already was that one of their most famous players King Clancy helped give Toronto two Stanley Cups.
What I wanted to learn about in this report was that how Toronto was formed, and what was some of their greatest accomplishments and players. How did they do during the 40’s, 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s, and present day. Who the Maple Leafs owner was and how did he create one of the biggest franchises in history. I wanted to learn what their records were. Last who was some of the coaches who helped Toronto win a Stanley Cup.
In 1917 Conn Symthe was the first owner of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Conn acquired a huge sum of money after he went gambling. He bought the Toronto St. Pats for $165,000, and then he renamed the team the Toronto Maple Leafs. Conn coached a little bit then he just went back to being the owner. Conn bet all his money again to obtain the one of the greatest hockey players around back then, it was King Clancy. All odds were against Conn Symthe 100 to 1 and Conn ended up victorious.
A lot of the records for the Toronto Maple Leafs were by Darryl Sitler. Some other very good players that played for the Toronto Maple Leafs is Mats Sundin who now currently plays for the Vancouver Canucks. He was the first European to ever be a captain for the Toronto Maple Leafs.
